Pile heat exchangers: thermal behaviour and interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Thermal piles – that is structural foundation piles also used as heat exchangers as part of a ground energy system – are increasingly being adopted for their contribution to more sustainable energy strategies for new buildings.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

The Numerical Estimation of Thermal Contact Resistance in Contacting Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Applied Sciences, 2008
For some manufacturing processes, the heat transfer between the components, the tools and the environment has an effect on tool-life and the accuracy of the formed component. Consequently, the measurement of Thermal Contact Resistance (TCR) is of increasing interest to researchers and industrial engineers participating in the manufacture of high ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

The 3D nature of a real un-dismantled electrical contact interface

open access: yes, 2015
A 3D contact analysis and modeling suite of tools are developed and introduced in this work. The "3D Contact Map" of an electrical contact interface is presented demonstrating the 3D nature of the contact.

The Tale of the Residual Tail: Insights From Continuous Intracranial Monitoring From Post‐Hippocampectomy Dynamics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Subtotal hippocampal resection can leave residual hippocampal tissue, yet the immediate postoperative electrophysiologic evolution of such remnants is unknown. We describe a patient with drug‐resistant temporal lobe epilepsy in whom a hippocampal remnant was continuously monitored using a responsive neurostimulator (RNS) following subtotal ...

Thermal and arc erosion behavior of CuCr contact material based on large plastic deformation treatment

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
CuCr alloys are the main contact materials used in medium-voltage and high-current vacuum interrupters. In this paper, the effect of large plastic deformation on microstructure and the transverse/longitudinal thermal conductivity of CuCr30 contact ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Effects of contact resistance on thermal-conductivity of composite media with a periodic structure

open access: yes, 1992
The thermal conductivity of periodic composite media with spherical or cylindrical inclusions embedded in a homogeneous matrix is discussed. Using Green functions, we show that the Rayleigh identity can be generalized to deal with thermal properties ot ...
