Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Modelling trace metal background to evaluate anthropogenic contamination in arable soils of south-western France [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The trace metal (TM) content in arable soils has been monitored across a region of France characterised by a large proportion of calcareous soils. Within this particular geological context, the objectives were to first determine the natural levels of ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Identifying human and animal faecal contamination in surface and drinking water : new concepts and approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Waterborne disease outbreaks caused by various pathogens have been reported from all over the world. They also play an important role in industrialized countries, despite good sanitation and high standards of hygiene.

UVC-Mirror for effective pathogens inactivation in air ducts [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Improving the air quality of indoor environments (IAQ) is of utmost importance to safeguard public health as people spend about 80–90% of their time indoor. Efficient Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) system represents a strategic and sustainable

Wheat straw- and maize straw-derived biochar effects on the soil cadmium fractions and bioaccumulation in the wheat–maize rotation system

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
Wheat–maize rotation is one of the most popular systems and successful intensification cropping systems in Northern China, while soils in some of this area are contaminated by cadmium (Cd). However, few studies have performed experiments on the reduction

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Assessment of Microbial Contamination in the Infulene River Basin, Mozambique

open access: yes, 2023
Water microbial contamination is one of the major threats to human health. The study focus is on Infulene River Basin, a urban catchment with mainly informal settlements, with limited water supply and sanitation. In the catchment there are two wastewater

The Key Factors for the Fate and Transport of Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Soil With Related in/ex Situ Measurement Methods: An Overview

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2021
Once petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs) are released into the soil, the interaction between PHs and soil media is dependent not only upon the soil properties but also on the characteristics of PHs.
