Titanate nanotubes and nanosheets as a mechanical reinforcement of water-soluble polyamic acid: Experimental and theoretical studies [PDF]

open access: yesComposites Part B: Engineering, 2017
Abstract Titanate nanosheets (TiNS), titanate nanotubes (TiNT), and scrolled titanate nanosheets (STiNS) were used to synthesise polymer nanocomposites by solution processing. The hardness was found to increase by 90% on addition of 2% TiNS while the modulus ( Er ) increased by 103% compared to the pure polymer.

Immunoregulatory mechanisms of the arachidonic acid pathway in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The central role of the arachidonic acid (AA) pathway in anticancer immunity. Enzymes and metabolites of the AA pathway can play both immunosuppressive and immunostimulatory roles in the tumor microenvironment. Therefore, their tailored targeting could be beneficial as a standalone therapy or in combination with current cancer immunotherapy.

A Lightweight Distributed Solution to Content Replication in Mobile Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
Performance and reliability of content access in mobile networks is conditioned by the number and location of content replicas deployed at the network nodes. Facility location theory has been the traditional, centralized approach to study content replication: computing the number and placement of replicas in a network can be cast as an uncapacitated ...

The multiple roles of the NlpC_P60 peptidase family in mycobacteria – an underexplored target for antimicrobial drug discovery

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The NlpC_P60 superfamily of peptidases is recognised by its key role in bacterial cell wall homeostasis. Recently, studies have also described the involvement of NlpC_P60‐like enzymes in bacterial competitive mechanisms and pathogenesis across several lineages.

The Bergman analytic content of planar domains [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Given a planar domain $\Omega$, the Bergman analytic content measures the $L^{2}(\Omega)$-distance between $\bar{z}$ and the Bergman space $A^{2}(\Omega)$. We compute the Bergman analytic content of simply-connected quadrature domains with quadrature formula supported at one point, and we also determine the function $f \in A^2(\Omega)$ that best ...

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...
