Utilization of Continuous Anaerobic Digesters for Processing Cattle Dung and Cabbage (Brassica oleracea) Waste

open access: yesFermentation
The purpose of this work is to explore the addition of cabbage (Brassica oleracea) waste interspersed with cattle dung into a continuous anaerobic digester that normally uses cattle dung as a substrate. In this work, a 200-L continuous anaerobic digester

Evaluation of Switch and Continuous Navigation Paradigms to Command a Brain-Controlled Wheelchair

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
A brain-computer interface (BCI) is a technology allowing patients with severe motor dysfunctions to use their electroencephalographic signals to create a communication channel to control devices.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Towards a Continuous Biometric System Based on ECG Signals Acquired on the Steering Wheel

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Electrocardiogram signals acquired through a steering wheel could be the key to seamless, highly comfortable, and continuous human recognition in driving settings. This paper focuses on the enhancement of the unprecedented lesser quality of such signals,

Continued radicals

open access: yesThe Ramanujan Journal, 2008
A nested radical with terms $a_1, a_2, \ldots , a_N$ is an expression of form $\sqrt{a_N + \cdots + \sqrt{a_2 + \sqrt{a_1}}}$. The limit as $N$ approaches infinity of such an expression, if it exists, is called a continued radical. We consider the set of real numbers $S(M)$ representable as a continued radical whose terms $a_1, a_2, \ldots$ are

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

ENHANCING VOLATILITY MODELING WITH LOG-LINEAR REALIZED GARCH-CJ: EVIDENCE FROM THE TOKYO STOCK PRICE INDEX

open access: yesBarekeng
This study compares the Log-linear Realized GARCH (LRG) and its extension with Continuous and Jump components (LRG-CJ) in modeling the volatility of financial assets, using daily data from the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) over 2004–2011.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Continuous external compression for the treatment of humeral pseudarthrosis: a single center experience

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2020
Humeral pseudarthrosis are common with a non-union rate after fracture between 8% and 13%. Several operative methods have been described for the treatment of humeral pseudarthrosis.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
