Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Intermittent rapamycin feeding recapitulates some effects of continuous treatment while maintaining lifespan extension

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism
Objective: Rapamycin, a powerful geroprotective drug, can have detrimental effects when administered chronically. We determined whether intermittent treatment of mice can reduce negative effects while maintaining benefits of chronic treatment.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

A continuous extension that preserves concavity, monotonicity and Lipschitz continuity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The following is proven here: let W : X × C −→ R ,w hereX is convex, be a continuous and bounded function such that for each y ∈ C, the function W (·,y ): X −→ R is concave (resp. strongly concave; resp. Lipschitzian with constant M; resp. monotone; resp.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Economics of winter wheat-summer fallow vs. continuous no-till spring wheat in the Horse Heaven Hills, Washington

open access: yes, 2001
This publication presents comparisons of the production costs and profitability of traditional winter wheat-summer fallow grown under conventional tillage with those of continuous no-till hard red spring wheat.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

The continuous Jacobi transform

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1983
The purpose of this paper is to define the continuous Jacobi transform as an extension of the discrete Jacobi transform. The basic properties including the inversion theorem for the continuous Jacobi transform are studied.

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...

Continuous Selections For Almost Lower Semicontinuous Multifunctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
[[abstract]]In this paper, we obtain several new continuous selection theorems for almost lower semicontinuous multifunctions T on a paracompact topological space X, in the general noncompact and/or nonconvex settings.
