Inactivation of Salmonella , Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli O157:H7 inoculated on coriander by freeze-drying and supercritical CO 2 drying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Coriander, either fresh or inoculated with three strains of Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella or Listeria monocytogenes, was treated with supercritical CO2 (scCO(2), with and without drying) or freeze-dried.

Interconnected Porous Hydrogels with Tunable Anisotropy Through Aqueous Emulsion Bioprinting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bioprintable microporous bioink is developed using an aqueous two‐phase system (ATPS) composed of extracellular matrix (ECM) mimetic biopolymers. The ATPS bioink enables the fabrication of interconnected porous architectures with up to 70% porosity, supporting long‐term cell viability and 3D cell alignment, enabling a simultaneous generation of ...

Self‐Refreshing Bi‐Based Active Sites for Efficient and Durable Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐refreshing Bi‐based catalyst is developed through the fabrication of a novel basic bismuth nitrate pre‐catalyst, which exhibits differential active sites of Bi2O2CO3 at low potentials and metallic Bi phases at high potentials, self‐repairing capability, and thus wide‐potential‐window efficiency and ultralong durability toward electrochemical CO2

Effect of Three Ultrasonic Methods on Wax Layer, Cell Structure and Vacuum Freeze-Dried Properties of Blueberry(3种超声方式对蓝莓蜡质层和细胞结构及真空冷冻干燥特性的影响) [PDF]

open access: yesShipin kexue jishu xuebao
The waxy composition of blueberry epidermis seriously hinders the diffusion of water during its vacuum freeze-drying (VFD) process. Fresh blueberries were used as raw materials to investigate the effects of three ultrasonic methods on the wax layer and ...

Structure of the novel membrane-coating material in proton-secreting epithelial cells and identification as an H+ATPase. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Specialized proton-secreting cells known collectively as mitochondria-rich cells are found in a variety of transporting epithelia, including the kidney collecting duct (intercalated cells) and toad and turtle urinary bladders.

Switchable Supramolecular Adhesive by Tuning Interfacial Bonding and Modulus

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The supramolecular adhesive (HyDiP) shows reversible adhesion and recyclability. In the dehydrated state, it is dense, stiff (E ≈445 MPa), transparent, and provides strong bonding with adhesion strengths up to 4.65 MPa. In the hydrated state, it becomes porous, soft (E ≈0.11 MPa), and detaches easily, enabling sustainable high‐strength applications ...

Nanocellulose as building block for novel materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis describes the fabrication of novel green materials using nanocellulose as the building block. Bacterial cellulose (BC) was used as the nanocellulose predominantly in this work. BC is highly crystalline pure cellulose with an inherent fibre

Photothermal Macroporous Lignin Cryogels for Off‐Grid, Continuous Atmospheric Water Collection via Interlayer Heat Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photothermal, macroporous lignin‐based cryogels are engineered to convert sunlight into low‐grade heat. Integrated as stacked beds in a drum‐type device, a thin copper interlayer transfers waste heat between beds, enabling interlayer heat recovery and continuous solar cycling.
