Increased Noise in Cortico-Cortical Integration After Mild TBI Measured With the Equivalent Noise Technique

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2019
The bulk of deficits accompanying mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is understood in terms of cortical integration—mnemonic, attentional, and cognitive disturbances are believed to involve integrative action across brain regions.

Right ventricular stroke volume assessed by pulmonary artery pulse contour analysis

open access: yesIntensive Care Medicine Experimental, 2020
Background Stroke volume measurement should provide estimates of acute treatment responses. The current pulse contour method estimates left ventricle stroke volume. Heart-lung interactions change right ventricular stroke volume acutely.

Non-uniform convergence of two-photon decay rates for excited atomic states

open access: yes, 2007
Two-photon decay rates in simple atoms such as hydrogenlike systems represent rather interesting fundamental problems in atomic physics. The sum of the energies of the two emitted photons has to fulfill an energy conservation condition, the decay takes ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Casimir's energy of a conducting sphere and of a dilute dielectric ball

open access: yes, 1999
In this paper we sum over the spherical modes appearing in the expression for the Casimir energy of a conducting sphere and of a dielectric ball (assuming the same speed of light inside and outside), before doing the frequency integration.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Layer-resolved optical conductivity of Co|Pt multilayers

open access: yes, 2002
The complex optical conductivity tensor is calculated for the Co|Pt systems by applying a contour integration technique within the framework of the spin-polarized relativistic screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Numerical evaluation of NLO multiparton processes

open access: yes, 2012
We discuss an algorithm for the numerical evaluation of NLO multiparton processes. We focus hereby on the virtual part of the NLO calculation, i.e. on evaluating the one-loop integration numerically.

Product integrals II: Contour integrals

open access: yesJournal of Functional Analysis, 1978
AbstractThis paper continues the joint work of the authors begun in the article “On Strong Product Integration” [J. Functional Analysis, submitted]. We consider product integrals along contours; the point of view and development is analogous to the usual complex variable theory of ordinary contour integrals.
