Comparative Analysis of Molecular Clouds in M31, M33 and the Milky Way [PDF]
We present BIMA observations of a 2$\arcmin$ field in the northeastern spiral arm of M31. In this region we find six giant molecular clouds that have a mean diameter of 57$\pm$13 pc, a mean velocity width of 6.5$\pm$1.2 \kms, and a mean molecular mass of

It is known that adaptation to a disk that flickers between black and white at 3-8 Hz on a gray surround renders invisible a congruent gray test disk viewed afterwards. This is contrast adaptation. We now report that adapting simply to the flickering circular outline of the disk can have the same effect.

Force control for automatic cashew shelling considering size variance
Vietnam has the world's largest market share of cashew nuts, and hence a large number of workers are involved in the cashew processing industry. A shelling operation is necessary to acquire a kernel (edible portion) of a cashew.

Simulation of microlensing lightcurves by combining contouring and rayshooting [PDF]
The contouring methods described by Lewis et al. (1993) and Witt (1993) are very efficient and elegant for obtaining the magnification of a point source moving along a straight track in the source plane.

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for
