Mixing of pseudoscalar mesons and isospin symmetry breaking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Mixing of the pseudoscalar mesons is discussed in the quark-flavor basis with the hypothesis that the basis decay constants follow the pattern of particle state mixing.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Change point analysis of second order characteristics in non-stationary time series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An important assumption in the work on testing for structural breaks in time series consists in the fact that the model is formulated such that the stochastic process under the null hypothesis of "no change-point" is stationary.

The Survival of Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis: A Look Under the Hood

open access: yesTheory and Practice in Language Studies, 2022
The contrastive analysis hypothesis is one of the theories that has considerably impacted second language acquisition research. Since the 1970s, this theory, which had piqued the interest of both linguists and teachers, has been heavily criticised. It has been described as unrealistic and impractical, and its basic assumptions have been questioned and ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

A review of empirical evidence on different uncanny valley hypotheses: support for perceptual mismatch as one road to the valley of eeriness

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
The uncanny valley hypothesis, proposed already in the 1970s, suggests that almost but not fully humanlike artificial characters will trigger a profound sense of unease.

Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis and Second Language Learning

open access: yesJournal of ELT Research, 2019
This article aims to provide an overview of some of the issues related to contrastive analysis hypothesis in second language learning. Contrastive hypothesis is one of the branches of applied linguistics which concerns with the study of two systems of languages between first language and target language.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Contrast Agent Clearance Dynamics and Diffusion in the Mouse Brain After Ventricular Administration

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Fluid and solute exchange between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) spaces and the central nervous system (CNS) parenchyma are critical for maintaining neural homeostasis and clearing metabolites.

A case of the Bayes factor in a comparative study according to gender of the fear of COVID-19 in Cuba

open access: yesRevista Cubana de Medicina Militar, 2021
A complementary analysis is reported using the Bayes Factor to contrast the statistical hypotheses of difference in a recent comparative study of fear of COVID-19 according to gender in Cuba, this methodological contribution allows quantifying the ...
