Temporal Expectation Enhances Contrast Sensitivity by Phase Entrainment of Low-Frequency Oscillations in Visual Cortex

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2013
Although it is increasingly accepted that temporal expectation can modulate early perceptual processing, the underlying neural computations remain unknown.

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Conditional Contrastive Learning for Improving Fairness in Self-Supervised Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Contrastive self-supervised learning (SSL) learns an embedding space that maps similar data pairs closer and dissimilar data pairs farther apart. Despite its success, one issue has been overlooked: the fairness aspect of representations learned using contrastive SSL.

Diffraction-Based Sensitivity Analysis of Apodized Pupil Mapping Systems [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J.652:833-844,2006, 2006
Pupil mapping is a promising and unconventional new method for high contrast imaging being considered for terrestrial exoplanet searches. It employs two (or more) specially designed aspheric mirrors to create a high-contrast amplitude profile across the telescope pupil that does not appreciably attenuate amplitude.

A 128$\,\times$ 128 1.5% Contrast Sensitivity 0.9% FPN 3 µs Latency 4 mW Asynchronous Frame-Free Dynamic Vision Sensor Using Transimpedance Preamplifiers

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 2013
Dynamic Vision Sensors (DVS) have recently appeared as a new paradigm for vision sensing and processing. They feature unique characteristics such as contrast coding under wide illumination variation, micro-second latency response to fast stimuli, and low

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Balancing Robustness and Sensitivity using Feature Contrastive Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
It is generally believed that robust training of extremely large networks is critical to their success in real-world applications. However, when taken to the extreme, methods that promote robustness can hurt the model's sensitivity to rare or underrepresented patterns.

Improved Contrast Sensitivity DVS and its Application to Event-Driven Stereo Vision [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents a new DVS sensor with one order of magnitude improved contrast sensitivity over previous reported DVSs. This sensor has been applied to a bio-inspired event-based binocular system that performs 3D event-driven reconstruction of a ...

Microstructural parameter estimation in vivo using diffusion MRI and structured prior information. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Diffusion MRI has recently been used with detailed models to probe tissue microstructure. Much of this work has been performed ex vivo with powerful scanner hardware, to gain sensitivity to parameters such as axon radius.
