The diagnostic performance of routinely acquired and reported computed tomography imaging in patients presenting with suspected pleural malignancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Objectives: Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) provides essential cross-sectional imaging data in patients with suspected pleural malignancy (PM). The performance of CT in routine practice may be lower than in previously reported research. We

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories predict survival in trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors applied joint/mixed models that predict mortality of trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories. Patients at high risk of death could be spared aggressive therapy with the prospect of a higher quality of life in their remaining lifetime, whereas patients with a ...

Joint application of hybrid iterative reconstruction and adaptive filters on neck‐and‐shoulder CT imaging: A clinical evaluation

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Purpose To assess whether the joint application of hybrid iterative reconstruction (HIR) and an adaptive filter (AF) could reduce streak artifacts and improve image quality of neck‐and‐shoulder computed tomography (CT). Methods This study included 96 patients with suspicious neck lesions who underwent a routine nonenhanced scan on a 64‐slice ...

Contrast visual acuity in patients with retinitis pigmentosa assessed by a contrast sensitivity tester

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2012
Purpose: To assess contrast visual acuity (CVA) in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and compare the result with standard visual acuity (VA), retinal thickness, status of inner segment/outer segment junction, and central visual field. Materials and

Dissociable prior influences of signal probability and relevance on visual contrast sensitivity

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2012
According to signal detection theoretical analyses, visual signals occurring at a cued location are detected more accurately, whereas frequently occurring ones are reported more often but are not better distinguished from noise.

The PTTG1/VASP axis promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis by modulating focal adhesion and actin filaments

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
VASP was found to be overexpressed in metastatic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Notably, PTTG1‐ and VASP‐deficient OSCC cells demonstrated suppressed metastatic properties by disrupting the interaction between the cytoskeleton and focal adhesion (FAs) in the filopodia region.

Application value of contrast‐enhanced ultrasound in preoperative localization of microwave ablation for primary hyperparathyroidism

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background Ultrasonography (US) and 99mTechnetium‐sestamibi scintigraphy (99mTc‐MIBI) are currently first‐line imaging modalities to localize parathyroid adenomas with sensitivities of 80% and 84%, respectively. Therefore, finding other modalities to further improve the diagnostic accuracy for preoperative localization is critically needed ...

Effect of fixation target on the contrast sensitivity in the foveal and parafoveal area [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Purpose To determine the influence on the contrast sensitivity when the stimulus contains a fixation target in two retinal locations, foveal and parafoveal. Methods Four young adults with 0.0 logMar acuity participated in this study. The stimulus was based on vertical sinusoidal gratings masked by a circular (for foveal area) or a ring (for ...

Theoretical Analysis of a Large Momentum Beamsplitter using Bloch Oscillations

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we present the implementation of Bloch oscillations in an atomic interferometer to increase the separation of the two interfering paths. A numerical model, in very good agreement with the experiment, is developed.

NanoCMSer: a consensus molecular subtype stratification tool for fresh‐frozen and paraffin‐embedded colorectal cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Consensus molecular subtypes (CMS1‐4) have been identified to study colorectal cancer heterogeneity and serve as potential biomarkers. In this study, we developed and evaluated NanoCMSer, a NanoString‐based classifier using 55 genes, optimized for FF and FFPE to facilitate the clinical evaluation of CMS subtyping.
