Metagenomic and biogenic amine changes in cassava fermentation for tucupi production using Pediococcus acidilactici starter culture

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 4, Page 2424-2436, 15 March 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND The use of starter cultures is essential for producing fermented foods with desirable standardized characteristics and for preventing pathogens. Pediococcus acidilactici, isolated from cocoa fermentation, was used in the production of tucupi, a widely appreciated sauce made from the juice of cassava root (manipueira) in the ...

Policing as Un‐Breathing and Geographies of Black Breathing in Europe

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 58, Issue 2, 2026.
Abstract The nexus of racism and policing has gained much political attention in Europe since the 2020 mass protests that followed the uprisings after the murder of George Floyd in the US. While many protestors signalled solidarity with policed subjects in the US, they also emphasised the role of state violence “at home”.

Diversity of Terrestrial Malacofauna, Favorable Habitats, and Relationships With Mollusk Size in Urban Environments of Sergipe, Northeastern Brazil

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
The invasive exotic snail Achatina fulica dominates the terrestrial mollusk community in the city of Aracaju, occurring in all sampled urban habitats and being the most abundant species among the individuals collected. In addition, it exhibited a larger shell size and greater total weight, particularly in back gardens. ABSTRACT Terrestrial mollusks can

Using Quality Improvement and Workflow Analysis to Successfully Implement Evidence‐Based Interventions to Increase Colorectal Cancer Screening Rates

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States for men and women combined but is preventable with timely screening. Evidence‐based interventions (EBIs) provide promising opportunities to increase screening. There are few descriptive examples of the processes used to assess and implement EBIs

Biochemical Responses of Anopheles spp. Larvae to a Novel Brazilian BR101 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis Formulation: Oxidative Stress, Detoxification Enzymes, and Safety for Nontarget Notonectidae and Gerridae Aquatic Insects

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 2, February 2026.
Bti BR101 exhibits strong larvicidal activity against Anopheles larvae spp., with dose‐dependent mortality and LC50 of 3.13 µg/mL. Bti increases ROS, lipid and protein oxidation, and activates antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx) and detoxification pathways (MFO and esterases), indicating moderate oxidative stress.
