Controlling on-off intermittent dynamics

Physical Review E, 1996
On-off intermittent chaotic behavior occurs in physical systems with symmetry. The phenomenon refers to the situation where one or more physical variables exhibit two distinct states in their time evolution. One is the ``off'' state where the physical variables remain constant, and the other is the ``on'' state where the variables temporarily burst out

Composting Process Optimization – Using On/Off Controls

Compost Science & Utilization, 2005
Despite the commercialization of a variety of different composting systems, the design and operation of composting systems to minimize the cost of producing compost remains a major goal. Evaluation of how system design and management affects the time required to stabilize compost is critical to optimizing the process.

The Control Process of an On-off Controller

2019 20th International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE), 2019
Regulation process of the two-position controller is defined by dynamic properties of the controlled system and by the control algorithm. This paper is focused on control of stable, 2ndorder, continuous systems with overdamped step response. There are 2 main types of control algorithms of the on-off controller: comparative mode and fixed frequency mode.

Simulation of ON/OFF controlled systems

Civil Engineering Systems, 1985
Abstract A method for simulating systems that have components controlled in an ON/OFF manner is presented. The method is particularly suited to systems with an identifiable component structure such as those found in network problems. The primary feature of the method is that control strategies are modelled separately from the dynamics of the physical ...

On-Off Control of Thermal Processes

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation, 1969
Common thermal processes, such as fluid heaters, heat-treatment plant, boilers, dryers, vats, etc., can conveniently be modeled by first-order transit-delayed equations. These processes are widely used in industry where they are usually discontinuously controlled by on-off or on-half-off controllers.

On-Off Control Adaptive To System Disturbances

2021 XXX International Scientific Conference Electronics (ET), 2021
The present research proposes a modification of on-off control, which allows system flexibility and good control quality in the presence of variable disturbances. According to the proposed solution the control signal is divided into two, in the common case unequal parts, which further improves the overall control quality by ensuring system flexibility ...

Surfactant Dependent pH Controlled “off-on”, “off-on-off” and “on-off” Fluorescent Switches Exhibited by N-Benzylidenenaphthalen-1-Amine

Journal of Fluorescence, 2015
N-benzylidenenaphthalen-1-amine (L) acts as pH dependent "off-on", "off-on-off" and "on-off" fluorescent switch in 1:1 (v/v) CH3CN:H2O depending on the presence of anionic sodiumdocdecyl sulphate (SDS), neutral triton X-100 (TX-100) and cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactants respectively.

Magnetically controlled vacuum-arc on-off switch

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1979
A vacuum spark gap is demonstrated which attains high-power switch-off capability by a magnetic control field applied to the anode in a Penning-type discharge geometry. Applying the magnetic field raises the arc voltage and excites oscillations. Circuit interruption results if the arc current is reduced to the current chopping level of the cathode ...

On-Off Control With Specified Fuel Usage

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1999
A method for generating on-off command profiles for flexible systems is presented. The command profiles move a system without residual vibration while using a specified amount of actuator fuel. Robustness to modeling errors can be incorporated into the design of the command signals.
