Exploring the Potential of Microwave Annealing for Enhancing Si‐based GeSn Lasers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We explore low‐thermal‐budget microwave annealing to enhance the performance of group‐IV GeSn lasers on Si. Microwave annealing under optimal conditions can simultaneously relax unwanted compressive strain and enhance the material quality of the GeSn active layer, thereby reducing the threshold and increasing the laser operating temperature.

Cleaning effectiveness of a nickel-titanium ultrasonic tip in ultrasonically activated irrigation: a SEM study

open access: yesBrazilian Oral Research, 2019
In endodontic treatment, regardless of the instrumentation technique, the presence of a smear layer covering contaminated dentin walls is always a concern. Thus, irrigation plays an essential role in reducing bacterial load.

Enhanced Infection Resistance and Regenerative Healing of Titanium Implants via Peptide‐Loaded Biodegradable Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study presents a new biodegradable coating for titanium implants using a natural antimicrobial peptide, caerin 1.9. Applied via solvent casting, the coating offers sustained antibacterial protection and promotes healing. Tested on 3D‐printed porous titanium scaffolds, it effectively prevented infection—including against resistant bacteria—while ...

Symmetric achromatic low-beta collider interaction region design concept

open access: yes, 2012
We present a new symmetry-based concept for an achromatic low-beta collider interaction region design. A specially-designed symmetric Chromaticity Compensation Block (CCB) induces an angle spread in the passing beam such that it cancels the chromatic ...

Lensfree on-chip microscopy over a wide field-of-view using pixel super-resolution. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We demonstrate lensfree holographic microscopy on a chip to achieve approximately 0.6 microm spatial resolution corresponding to a numerical aperture of approximately 0.5 over a large field-of-view of approximately 24 mm2.

Evaluation of immunocytochemistry on destained giemsa stained smears as an alternative to conventional technique

open access: yesIndian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology, 2022
Introduction: Protocol for immunocytochemical (ICC) staining in May-Grünwald Giemsa (MGG)–stained smears has been difficult to establish. It is the need of the hour to be able to use prestained slides for ICC in specific cases to deliver timely diagnoses and reduce inconvenience to patients ...

Performance of the Cellslide® automated liquid-based cytology system amongst HIV-positive women

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2016
Background: Many women undergoing cervical screening as part of a national South African screening programme may be positive for HIV. The performance of liquid-based cytology (LBC) on samples from HIV-positive women needs to be determined.
