An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Vector Vortex Beams: Theory, Generation, and Detection of Laguerre–Gaussian and Bessel–Gaussian Types

open access: yesPhotonics
A vector vortex beam (VVB) combines the phase singularity of a vortex beam (VB) with the anisotropic polarization of a vector beam, enabling the transmission of complex optical information and offering broad application prospects in optical sensing, high-

Effect of the shell material and confinement type on the conversion efficiency of the core/shell quantum dot nanocrystal solar cells

open access: yes, 2018
In this study, effects of the shell material and confinement type on the conversion efficiency of the core/shell quantum dot nanocrystal (QDNC) solar cells have been investigated in a detail manner.

Enhanced spontaneous raman signal collected evanescently by silicon nitride slot waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the effect of waveguide geometry on the conversion efficiency of Raman signals collected by integrated photonic waveguides. Compared to strip-type photonic wires, we report a six-fold increase in conversion efficiency for silicon-nitride ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The Effect of Magnet-to-Coil Distance on the Performance Characteristics of EMATs

open access: yesSensors, 2020
The poor conversion efficiency and obvious lift-off effect of the electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) are commonly known to be problems for its practical application.

Effect of Sulfurization Temperature on the Preparation of Cu2ZnSnS4 Thin Films for Solar Cells via a Nanoink Coating Method

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2021
High-temperature sulfurization is an effective method for preparing Cu2ZnSnS4 thin-film solar cells with reduced volume resistivity and defect density and a high energy conversion efficiency.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Calcium phosphate precipitation modeling in a pellet reactor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The calcium phosphate precipitation in a pellet reactor can be evaluated by two main parameters: the phosphate conversion ratio and the phosphate removal efficiency. The conversion ratio depends mainly on the pH. The pellet reactor efficiency depends not

Efficient low-power terahertz generation via on-chip triply-resonant nonlinear frequency mixing

open access: yes, 2009
Achieving efficient terahertz (THz) generation using compact turn-key sources operating at room temperature and modest power levels represents one of the critical challeges that must be overcome to realize truly practical applications based on THz. Up to
