Spectropolarimetry of cool stars
In recent years, the development of spectropolarimetric techniques deeply modified our knowledge of stellar magnetism. In the case of solar-type stars, the challenge is to measure a geometrically complex field and determine its evolution over very different time frames.

Our present understanding of the cooling of hot neutron stars formed in supernovae collapses is briefly reviewed. The neutrino energy loss dominant in the early stages of the cooling is discussed for an equation of state involving only nucleon degrees of freedom and in the presence of a pion condensate.

Chromospheric activity of cool giant stars [PDF]
During the seventh year of IUE twenty-six spectra of seventeen cool giant stars ranging in spectral type from K3 thru M6 were obtained. Together with spectra of fifteen stars observed during the sixth year of IUE, these low-resolution spectra have been ...

Mass density governs the protective behavior of oxide layers on nuclear fuel cladding. Ptychographic X‐ray computed tomography measures zirconium oxide grown on Zircaloy‐4 under reactor and autoclave conditions, revealing nearly identical bulk densities of 5.1 ± 0.80 g cm−3.

Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Analysis of the Stellar Occultations during the Unprecedented Long-duration Flare
In strong stellar and solar flares, flare loops typically appear during the decay phase, providing an additional contribution to the flare emission and, possibly, obscuring the flare emission.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Departures from LTE in Cool Stars
Departures from LTE may significantly affect determinations of stellar parameters and chemical abundances of cool stars, in particular, metal-poor stars. We review the application of the non-LTE ionization equilibrium between Ca
