Winds from cool stars [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 1996
Recent spectroscopic results from the far ultraviolet and X-ray region coupled with infrared observations demonstrate that winds from luminous stars can be warm (300000K) and fast (speeds of several hundred km s—1) linking the hot solar wind to the cool, massive winds of luminous M-type supergiant stars.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF COOL GIANT STARS

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2017
Based upon the catalogue of equivalent widths of absorption lines in spectra of cool giant - stars created at the Astrospectroscopy Department of the Astronomical Observatory in Odessa the abundances in their atmospheres is determined. This determination

Nonthermal Motions and Atmospheric Heating of Cool Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The magnetic processes associated with the nonthermal broadening of optically thin emission lines appear to carry enough energy to heat the corona and accelerate the solar wind.

Observations of Cooling Neutron Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Observations of cooling neutron stars allow to measure photospheric radii and to constrain the equation of state of nuclear matter at high densities. In this paper we concentrate on neutron stars, which show thermal (photospheric) X-ray emission and have measured distances. After a short summary of the radio pulsars falling into this category we review

Hot Stars with Cool Companions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present intermediate results of a spectroscopic survey for late K-M companions orbiting nearby A and B type stars. Such companions may have formed in the massive disk of the young primary star, and so may be scaled-up versions of brown dwarfs formed ...

FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF COOL GIANT STARS

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2017
The methods are suggested for determination of fundamental characteristics of cool giant stars from photometry in the Geneva and Gildenkern systems, using for calibration of a great number of standard stars.

Coronae of Cool Stars [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 2004
We present preliminary results of grating observations of YY Mensae and V824 Arae by Chandra and XMM-Newton. Spectral features are presented in the context of the emission measure distributions, the coronal abundances, and plasma electron densities.

Benchmark ultra-cool dwarfs in widely separated binary systems

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2011
Ultra-cool dwarfs as wide companions to subgiants, giants, white dwarfs and main sequence stars can be very good benchmark objects, for which we can infer physical properties with minimal reference to theoretical models, through association with the ...
