A nonlinear propagation model-based phase calibration technique for membrane hydrophones

open access: yes, 2008
A technique for the phase calibration of membrane hydrophones in the frequency range up to 80 MHz is described. This is achieved by comparing measurements and numerical simulation of a nonlinearly distorted test field.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Optimized Design of Hot Water Storage in Solar Thermal Cooling Facilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Solar thermal installations can provide a significant contribution to the energy needs of cooling demand of single family buildings. Unfortunately oversizing facility elements is not uncommon. Most of the design flaws concern collector field or auxiliary

Analysis of the temperature evolution of the canned motor with spiral tube heat exchanger in secondary water supply blackout fault

open access: yesScientific Reports
In a canned motor with a spiral tube heat exchanger for a nuclear main pump, if the secondary water suddenly fails, the temperature of the lubricating water and motor winding insulation must not exceed the alarm or permitted value within the 5 min ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Transpiration cooling for double-walled jet engine turbine blades

open access: yes
Increasing thermal loads on turbine blades has led to the need for more advanced cooling sys- tems. Transpiration cooling techniques are of renewed interest, partly because of more ad- vanced manufacturing methods, and are characterised by small film ...
