Combustion effects on film cooling [PDF]

open access: yes
The effects of: (1) a reactive environment on film cooling effectiveness, and (2) film cooling on rocket engine performance were determined experimentally in a rocket thrust chamber assembly operating with hydrogen and oxygen propellants at 300 psi ...

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Review of Waste Heat Utilisation from Data Centres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Rapidly increasing global internet traffic, mobile internet users and the number of Internet of Things (IoT) connections are driving exponential growth in demand for data centre and network services, which in turn is driving their electricity demand ...

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Effects of film hole spanwise angle and diameter on flow and heat transfer of impingement/effusion cooling with crossflow diverters

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
This paper studies the blade cooling under the co-effect of external film extraction and internal impingement cooling with crossflow diverters. The influence of spanwise angle (α) and diameter (Df) of film hole on flow and cooling performance are ...

Assessment of the NASA code FDNS2D for computation of film cooling effectiveness [PDF]

open access: yes
The role of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) programs is usually one of analysis. Generally they are not used in the design phase of a project. There was an effort to integrate CFD codes into the design phase of combustion devices, specifically, in the

Numerical investigation of rectangular twisted hole on film cooling for gas turbine blades [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper investigates a new method of film cooling using swirling coolant flow through a rectangular twisted film cooling holes with spirally corrugated tube. Two different air flows with different in temperatures were used in this study.

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Synergistic effects of micro-hole injection and film cooling for increasing the cooling effectiveness: A numerical investigation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids
The continuous drive to improve the efficiency and power output of gas turbines has led to the need for advanced cooling strategies that can effectively dissipate high thermal loads.

Three-dimensional turbulent-mixing-length modeling for discrete-hole coolant injection into a crossflow [PDF]

open access: yes
Three dimensional mixing length models of a flow field immediately downstream of coolant injection through a discrete circular hole at a 30 deg angle into a crossflow were derived from the measurements of turbulence intensity.
