Energy-Efficiency Maximization for Cooperative Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Sensor Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Spectrum sensing is the prerequisite of opportunistic spectrum access in cognitive sensor networks (CSNs) as its reliability determines the success of transmission. However, spectrum sensing is an energy-consuming operation that needs to be minimized for

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Subband based Cooperative Spectrum Sensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Wireless communication technology with traditional rigid spectrum allocations and low scalability is wasting lots of spectral resources. Spectral congestion is becoming critical with heavily increasing utilization of wireless communications technology ...

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Location-aware cooperative spectrum sensing within cognitive radio networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Spectrum sensing is the key enabling technology for cognitive radio networks. The main objective of spectrum sensing is to provide more spectrum access opportunities to cognitive radio users without interfering with the operations of the licensed network.

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

Secure Cooperative Spectrum Sensing and Allocation in Distributed Cognitive Radio Networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2015
Cognitive radio networks (CRNs) are an emerging wireless communications technique for resolving the significant spectrum scarcity problem. Despite their promising characteristics, CRNs also introduce new security threats, especially the internal attacks ...

Multi-Modal Cooperative Spectrum Sensing Based on Dempster-Shafer Fusion in 5G-Based Cognitive Radio

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
In 5G-based cognitive radio, the primary user signal is more active due to the broad frequency band. The traditional cooperative spectrum sensing only detects one characteristic of PU using one kind of detector, which may decrease the sensing performance
