Cryptic CAM photosynthesis in Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia, Y. jaegeriana)

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 5, Page 2583-2598, December 2025.
Summary Joshua trees are long‐lived perennial monocots native to the Mojave Desert in North America. Composed of two species, Yucca brevifolia and Y. jaegeriana (Asparagaceae), Joshua trees are imperiled by climate change, with decreases in suitable habitat predicted under future climate change scenarios.

Large‐scale quantification of stomatal patterning in barley leaves overexpressing epidermal patterning factor 1 reveals differential stomatal density between the adaxial and abaxial surfaces and spatial heterogeneity that impact stomatal function

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 4, Page 1769-1783, November 2025.
Summary Stomatal density varies spatially over the leaf surface and between abaxial and adaxial leaf surfaces, with distribution greatly influencing plant photosynthesis and water use. However, methodological limitations have prevented quantification of spatial heterogeneity and its consequences for gaseous exchange in monocot crops.

Post‐Traumatic Growth in Adult Cancer Survivors: A Scoping Review of Psychological Factors, Predictors, and Interventions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Psychology, Volume 60, Issue 5, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Post‐traumatic growth (PTG), defined as positive psychological changes following trauma, has garnered attention in recent years within the context of cancer. This scoping review aims to synthesise and map PTG‐related studies published in the last 5 years among adult cancer populations.

Reflectance spectroscopy predicts leaf functional traits across wine grape cultivars

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 5, Page 1524-1537, September 2025.
Characterizing variability in crop traits is key for understanding agroecosystem responses to environmental change. However, trait data are often time‐consuming to collect and therefore still limit our understanding and predictions of agriculture responses to environmental change.

Terroir and rootstock effects on leaf shape in California Central Valley vineyards

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 1110-1122, July 2025.
The innumerable effects of terroir—including climate, soil, microbial environment, biotic interactions, and cultivation practice—collectively alter plant performance and production. A more direct agricultural intervention is grafting, in which genetically distinct shoot and root genotypes are surgically combined to create a chimera that alters shoot ...
