Robust Multi‐Source Batch Normalisation for Test‐Time Batch Adaptation

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Test‐Time Batch Adaptation (TTBA) aims to adapt a pre‐trained source model to small, unlabelled target batches at test time. The TTBA methods focus on adapting the pre‐trained model or the target data in a one‐to‐one alignment paradigm. However, these one‐to‐one alignment paradigms assume that the source domain may share the same knowledge ...

Thermal Stability of Plasma‐Assisted Film Deposition for Insulation Modification: In View of Hydrophobicity and Flashover Performances

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Polymer insulation exposed to natural environment inevitably face challenges from material ageing and surface insulating degradation. Surface treatment is an effective method to improve material performance, but traditional processing methods such as room temperature vulcanised silicone rubber (RTV) coating, are subjected to coating ...

No gain from pain: Lack of nociceptor activation suggests no adaptation for defence in the evolution of European viper venoms

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Snake venoms show variability in composition at all taxonomic levels, both within and between species, and the selective pressures underlying this variation have long been debated.

Rising temperature non‐additively alters how different dimensions of biodiversity affect ecosystem‐scale processes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
The authors distil how dimensions of biodiversity drive ecosystem processes with increasing temperature. Specifically, species physiology more greatly affected ecosystem primary production than did foraging behaviour, and physiology mediated non‐additive interactions with temperature.

Deep blueprint: A literature review and guide to automated image classification for ecologists

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
A practical, literature‐grounded review that gives ecologists a clear, modular workflow for deep learning image classification. With code, GUIs and a novel deep sea case study (automated deep sea biotope classification) it lowers technical barriers and provides a usable blueprint for accelerating, standardising, and scaling ecological image analysis ...
