The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Improvement of the method for determining the compaction coefficient of asphalt concrete mixture [PDF]

open access: yesДороги і мости
Introduction. The quality of asphalt concrete mixture compaction in the road pavement layer is assessed by the compaction coefficient. The compaction coefficient refers to the ratio of the average density of cores to the average density of samples ...

Superelongation of Liquid Metal

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2022
The ability to control interfacial tension electrochemically is uniquely available for liquid metals (LMs), in particular gallium‐based LM alloys. This imparts them with excellent locomotion and deformation capabilities and enables diverse applications ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Expression of Hepatitis C Virus Core and E2 antigenic recombinant proteins and their use for development of diagnostic assays

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2015
Background: Early diagnosis of HCV infection is based on detection of antibodies against HCV proteins using recombinant viral antigens. The present study was designed to select, clone and express the antigenic regions of Core and E2 genes from local HCV ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Vortex-core structure in a mixture of Bose and Fermi superfluids [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2017
We study a single quantized vortex in the fermionic component of a mixture of Fermi superfluid and Bose-Einstein condensate. As the density ratio between the boson and the fermion components is tuned, we identify a transition in the vortex-core structure, across which fermions in the vortex core become completely depleted even in the weak-coupling ...

Which Recurrent Selection Scheme To Improve Mixtures of Crop Species? Theoretical Expectations

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2020
In a context of increasing environmental challenges, there is an emerging demand for plant cultivars that are adapted to cultivation in species mixture.

Genetic Variation in Host-Specific Competitiveness of the Symbiont Rhizobium leguminosarum Symbiovar viciae

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Legumes of the Fabeae tribe form nitrogen-fixing root nodules resulting from symbiotic interaction with the soil bacteria Rhizobium leguminosarum symbiovar viciae (Rlv).
