FASN inactivation-induced progranulin (GRN) expression promotes lysosome-dependent cell death to suppress leukemogenesis

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Cancer cells rely on lipogenesis in addition to exogenous lipid uptake, and fatty acid synthase (FASN) is aberrantly overexpressed in myeloid leukemia, yet its role in leukemogenesis is unclear. We show that FASN is essential for leukemogenesis.

Inverse problem for the Earth's core evolution model

open access: yesRussian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2020
The size and the age of the inner core impose constraints in modeling of the Earth's core evolution. The origin of the solid core corresponds to the change in convection regime in the core and, correspondingly, to the change in the magnetic field ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Skillful subseasonal ensemble predictions of heat wave onsets through better representation of land surface uncertainties

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science
Uncertainties in land surface processes notably limit subseasonal heat wave (HW) onset predictions. A better representation of the uncertainties in land surface processes using ensemble prediction methods may be an important way to improve HW onset ...

LMO7 deficiency reveals the significance of the cuticular plate for hearing function

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
In contrast to the extensively studied mechanosensory hair bundle, the cuticular plate is not as well understood. In this study, authors describe the discovery of a hair cell protein called LIM only protein 7, which is localized in the cuticular plate ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Tdrd15 is dispensable for male fertility and spermatogenesis in the golden hamster

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research
Tudor domain-containing proteins (TDRDs) constitute an evolutionarily conserved protein family and are critical for germline development and piRNA pathway regulation, with established roles in male fertility.

Cores of Countably Categorical Structures

open access: yes, 2007
A relational structure is a core, if all its endomorphisms are embeddings. This notion is important for computational complexity classification of constraint satisfaction problems.
