The Effect of Extrusion Conditions on the Fermentability of Wheat Straw and Corn Silage
Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1997Wheat (Triticum aestivum L) straw and corn (Zea mays L) silage were extruded under variable conditions of temperature and screw speed. The resulting extrudates were then tested for their fermentability according to cumulative production of gas, and compared with each other and with the untreated material.

Secondary thermophilic microaerobic treatment in the anaerobic digestion of corn straw
Bioresource Technology, 2015Thermophilic microaerobic pretreatment (TMP) has been proved to be an alternative pretreatment method during anaerobic digestion (AD) of corn straw. In this study, in order to improve the fermentation efficiency during late AD stage, improve the methane yield and volatile solid (VS) removal efficiency, a secondary thermophilic microaerobic treatment ...

Pretreatment of corn straw using the alkaline solution of ionic liquids
Bioresource Technology, 2018In the present work, the pretreatment of corn stalk with the solution of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([Emim]Ac) ionic liquid containing NaOH was explored for its lignin removal. The effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, and solid-liquid ratio on the lignin removal efficiency were determined by the response surface methodology (RSM ...

Bioconversion of corn straw by coupling ensiling and solid-state fermentation
Bioresource Technology, 2001A two-stage process that combined solid-state fermentation (SSF) and ensiling was used for bioconversion of corn straw, in order to increase nutritional value and palatability for animal feed. SSF of corn straw increased the level of protein from 6.7% to 14.7% and decreased the cellulose by 38.0% and hemicellulose by 21.2%.

Gasification and catalytic reforming of corn straw in closed-loop reactor
Bioresource Technology, 2019A closed-loop gasification and catalytic reforming apparatus was applied for producing syngas from corn straw with upgraded syngas quality. Four nickel based catalysts at 10% and that at 5-15% loadings on γ-A12O3 were synthesized and tested. Effects of reforming temperature (700-900 °C), steam to biomass ratio (S/B, 0.5-2.5), catalyst to biomass ratio (

Progress of research into cotton straw and corn straw cement-based building materials in China
Advances in Cement Research, 2018This paper reviews the development of cotton straw and corn straw cement-based materials in China. With the use of unmodified straw fibres, the compressive strength of the cement-based material decreases with an increase in corn and cotton straw content, but the rate of decrease is considerably lower than that of wheat and rice straw, mainly because ...

Valorization of Corn Straw for Production of Glucose by Two‐Step Depolymerization
Chemistry – A European JournalAbstractDepolymerization of the cellulose part in lignocellulose to glucose is a significant step for lignocellulose valorization. As one of the main by‐products of agricultural biomass in crop‐producing filed, valorization of corn straw has attracted considerable attention.
