Corona Discharge in Clouds

Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics, 2014
We present a review of the results of theoretical studies and laboratory modeling of corona discharge initiation in clouds. The influence of corona discharges on the evolution of the cloud microstructure and electrification is analyzed. It is shown that corona discharges are initiated when large-size hydrometeors approach each other, whereas in some ...

The Corona Discharge Transducer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1954
Measurements have continued and will be reported on the dynamic pressure sensitivity of a point-to-plane corona discharge. It was found previously that the sensitivity of the device using a 6.3-mil diameter wire is proportional to the square of the ratio of current drawn by the discharge to potential across the discharge (conductance).

Corona discharge in electrospraying

Journal of Electrostatics, 2014
Abstract The paper presents investigations of current–voltage and light emission characteristics of electrospraying of various liquids in atmospheric air. The spectroscopic measurements have shown that the onset of corona discharge coincides with the onset of electrospraying, with the voltage increasing.

Interferometry of the corona discharge

[1991] Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials, 2002
The authors consider the possibility of applying optical methods of registration of small changes in refractive index to the investigation of processes occurring during corona discharge in gases. The interferometry used makes it possible to determine changes in gas temperature on corona discharge for discharge gaps of ordinary geometry.

The surge corona discharge

Proceedings of the IEE Part C: Monographs, 1961
Exploratory experiments are described followed by an account of a more systematic study of the corona discharge with concentric-cylinder electrodes. From experimental records which relate the charge flow in an external circuit to the applied voltage, the corona current and energy loss were derived.

On the Theory of Corona Discharge

Beiträge aus der Plasmaphysik, 1983
AbstractFundamentals of microscopical theory of the corona discharge are considered. Main mechanisms of generation and disappearance of charged and excited particles are discussed for the example of the helium discharge. An important role of pair ionizing collisions of metastable particles is indicated. Field configurations and distributions of charged

Corona discharge in steam

Journal of Electrostatics, 1982
Abstract The negative corona discharge in steam has been studied experimentally over a range of pressures, above and below atmospheric. Provided the temperature of the steam is well above the saturation temperature the results are similar to those obtained with other gases.

Corona discharge photography

Journal of Applied Physics, 1973
Using short (∼ 100 μsec) pulses of rf (1 MHZ) applied to parallel electrodes in air at small electrode spacings (∼ 250 μ) and at an applied field of ∼ 106 V/cm, discharges from both biological and metallic electrodes occurred from a network of points in the electrode surface. These discharges were recorded photographically.

Corona discharge treatment

Conference Record of the 1993 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Twenty-Eighth IAS Annual Meeting, 2002
Various aspects of corona discharge treatment are reviewed. Particular attention is given to the Lissajous power measurement procedure; the significance of quartz, ceramic, or rubber as the dielectric in corona treaters; watt density considerations; and stabilizers and fatty acids. >

Characteristics of a corona discharge with a hot corona electrode

Plasma Physics Reports, 2011
The effect of the temperature of the corona electrode on the electrical characteristics of a corona discharge was studied experimentally. A modified Townsend formula for the current-voltage characteristic of a one-dimensional corona is proposed. Gasdynamic and thermal characteristics of a positive corona discharge in a coaxial electrode system are ...
