This is an attempt to identify the causes of geomagnetic storms which occurred during a year and a half from January 1977 to June 1978. The assignment of geomagnetic storm causation to appropriate coronal holes or solar flares has been made by ...

Estimating Ion Temperatures at the Polar Coronal Hole Boundary
The temperatures of the heavy ions ( T _i ) in the solar corona provide critical information about the heating mechanism of the million-degree corona.

Coronal Hole Properties Observed with SUMER
We analyze SUMER spectra of 14 lines belonging to 12 ions, obtained on both sides of the boundary of polar coronal holes as well as at other locations along the limb. We compare line intensities, shifts and widths in coronal holes with values obtained in the quiet Sun.

Chromosphere Activity Relation with Solar Dynamo Magnetic Activity Cycle [PDF]
In this article, we analyzed the abnormal thickness of the chromosphere above the coronal holes (CH) at the poles of the Sun for 13 years (2010-2022), on the 15th of every month, by using AIA/SDO telescope data.

The dynamics of high speed streams of solar plasma emanating from a coronal hole is investigated by use of a two-fluid model with polytropic equations of state. Steady outflow is considered along a flow tube which has a radial orientation with respect to the Sun, and a cross-sectional area proportional to r' where r is the heliocentric radius and s is ...

Topologically driven coronal dynamics – a mechanism for coronal hole jets [PDF]
Abstract. Bald patches are magnetic topologies in which the magnetic field is concave up over part of a photospheric polarity inversion line. A bald patch topology is believed to be the essential ingredient for filament channels and is often found in extrapolations of the observed photospheric field.

The Merging of a Coronal Dimming and the Southern Polar Coronal Hole
Abstract We report on the merging between the southern polar coronal hole and an adjacent coronal dimming induced by a coronal mass ejection on 2022 March 18, resulting in the merged region persisting for at least 72 hr. We use remote sensing data from multiple co-observing spacecraft to understand the physical processes during this ...

Empirical Forecast of Corotating Interacting Regions and Geomagnetic Storms Based on Coronal Hole Information [PDF]
In this study, we suggest an empirical forecast of CIR (Corotating Interaction Regions) and geomagnetic storm based on the information of coronal holes (CH). For this we used CH data obtained from He I 10830 Å maps at National Solar Observatory-Kitt Peak

It has been noted that coronal holes appear to be associated with regions of diverging magnetic field in the corona. We set out to test the hypothesis that coronal holes may be caused by an increased flow of energy into the solar wind resulting directly from this diverging magnetic field pattern.
