The Effect of Norepinephrine on the Coronary Microcirculation
Journal of Vascular Research, 2008The role of the sympathetic nervous system in the regulation of large coronary artery tone has been well defined. Studies of adrenergic regulation of coronary-resistance vessels have largely been limited to indirect inferences based on flow measurement obtained in vivo. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of norepinephrine (NE)

Studies of the coronary microcirculation of the cat
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1971Abstract Coronary capillary red cell velocity and capillary diameter were measured in the left atrium of the intact beating cat heart by transillumination of the left atrial muscle. Capillary red cell velocity was determined from moving pictures after injection of methacholine, nitroglycerin, norepinephrine, isoproterenol and after vagal stimulation.

The coronary microcirculation and coronary microvascular dysfunction
2021The role of revascularization in the treatment of obstructive coronary artery disease is well established, and its impact on improving survival has been proven. Nevertheless, patients with signs and symptoms considered of cardiac origin but with no obstructive coronary artery disease on coronary angiography are increasingly seen. Initially described as

The coronary microcirculation in health and disease
Cardiology Clinics, 2004Apart from being the site of nutrient and gas exchange for the myocardium, the capillary bed is a dynamic participant in the regulation of coronary and myocardial blood flow. MBV also responds to changes in myocardial oxygen demand. Because MCE can be used to assess MBF and MBV in vivo, it can be used to provide unique insights into tissue perfusion.

Microcirculation and coronary blood flow
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1972Abstract The microcirculation of the coronary vasculature functions as a penetrating vascular network running from epicardium to endocardium with direct communications of both arterioles and venules with the ventricular chambers. The degree of capillary flow and utilization reflect the fact that the heart is a constantly functioning muscle.

ACE-inhibitors and coronary microcirculation
1993Arterial hypertension is the most frequent cause of a disturbance of coronary microcirculation. Inspite of having normal epicardial coronary arteries, patients with arterial hypertension often have symptoms of angina pectoris and a positive exercise tolerance test.

It is still standard teaching that coronary arteries are “end-arteries”, that is to say that each main coronary vessel has its own discrete territory of supply and that in the normal functioning heart such anastomoses as exist are without function.

Microcirculation of the Coronary Band of the Equine Hoof
Cells Tissues Organs, 1988Scanning-electron-microscopic examination of corrosion casts was used to investigate the microcirculation of the coronary border of the equine hoof. Numerous peg-shaped capillary plexuses derived from arterioles extended distally from the dorsal branches of the digital arteries parallel to the hoof wall. The plexuses varied in length and consisted of a

Adrenergic Vasomotion in the Coronary Microcirculation
1991The goal of this study was to determine the alpha-adrenergic receptor subtype(s) responsible for constriction at different microvascular levels in the coronary circulation. To accomplish these goals, the epicardial coronary microcirculation of intact beating hearts was viewed through an intravital microscope using stroboscopic epi-illumination.

Coronary Microcirculation and Angiogenesis
1999Abstract Because of its obvious importance in terms of delivery of blood and nutrients to the myocardium, there has been a long-standing interest in properties of the resistance circulation of the heart. Prior to the midl 980s, due to technical limitations, it was difficult to directly study coronary microvessels either in situ or in ...
