Estrogen‐dependent gene regulation: Molecular basis of TIMP‐1 as a sex‐specific biomarker for acute lung injury

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 12, Issue 17, September 2024.
Abstract Increased circulating tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases‐1 (TIMP‐1) levels have been observed in patients with acute lung injury (ALI). However, the sex‐specific regulation of TIMP‐1 and the underlying molecular mechanisms have not been well elucidated. In this study, we found that plasma TIMP‐1 levels were significantly higher in COVID‐19

Treating activated regulatory T cells with pramipexole protects human dopaminergic neurons from 6‐OHDA‐induced degeneration

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 30, Issue 8, August 2024.
Pramipexole‐treated, activated regulatory T cells protect dopaminergic neurons against 6 OHDA damage and promote primary neurite length. This could be due to the production of the regulatory cytokine IL‐10 and an increased expression of genes related to regulation and neuroprotection.

Regulation of Cancer‐Associated miRNAs Expression under Hypoxic Conditions

open access: yesAnalytical Cellular Pathology, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Solid tumors frequently experience hypoxia or low O2 levels. In these conditions, hypoxia‐inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF‐1α) is activated and acts as a transcription factor that regulates cancer cell adaptation to O2 and nutrient deprivation.
