The impact of circulating nucleosomes on inflammation in acute lung injury
The FASEB Journal, Volume 38, Issue 23, 15 December 2024.Extracellular histones are predominantly released as nucleosomes during ALI. Extracellular nucleosomes can lead to macrophage activation and trigger inflammation in various organs. Mechanistically, nucleosomes activate the NF‐κB signaling pathway, while inhibition of NF‐κB by sulfasalazine attenuated nucleosome‐induced macrophage activation.
