Three-dimensional earthward fast flow in the near-Earth plasma sheet in a sheared field: comparisons between simulations and observations [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2009
Three-dimensional configuration of earthward fast flow in the near-Earth plasma sheet is studied using three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations on the basis of the spontaneous fast reconnection model.

De re metallica: the cosmic chemical evolution of galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomy and Astrophysics Review, 2018
The evolution of the content of heavy elements in galaxies, the relative chemical abundances, their spatial distribution, and how these scale with various galactic properties, provide unique information on the galactic evolutionary processes across the ...

Metallofullerenol Sc3N@C80(OH)18: A New Generation Radioprotector Protecting Human Erythrocytes Against Multiple Biochemical Damage Modes Upon Gamma Irradiation, Identifying It as a Scavenger of Short‐ and Long‐Lived Radicals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Metallofullerenol Sc3N@C80(OH)18 demonstrates strong radioprotective properties as a scavenger of both short‐ and long‐lived radicals. The study reveals protection of human erythrocytes from γ‐radiation–induced biochemical damage via post‐irradiation removal of primary and secondary reactive oxidants, supported by pulse radiolysis kinetics.

Multi-instrument observations of ionospheric super plasma bubbles in the European longitude sector during the 23–24 April 2023 severe geomagnetic storm

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate
This study’s objective is to better specify the rare occurrence of super equatorial plasma bubbles in particular to the European longitude sector, detailing their spatio-temporal evolution, and better understanding pre-conditions for their development ...

Measurement of the cosmic ray proton spectrum from 40 GeV to 100 TeV with the DAMPE satellite [PDF]

open access: yesScience Advances, 2019
DAMPE satellite has directly measured the cosmic ray proton spectrum from 40 GeV to 100 TeV and revealed a new feature at about 13.6 TeV. The precise measurement of the spectrum of protons, the most abundant component of the cosmic radiation, is ...

The Promise of Solid Lubricants for a Sustainable Future

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lubricants are vital for technology, saving energy and resources. The industry seeks sustainable solutions beyond fossil fuels. Solid lubricants offer extremely low friction and reduce environmental impact, especially in harsh conditions. Can these solids truly replace liquid lubricants, or are they limited to extreme applications?

Integrated geophysical‐petrological modeling of lithosphere‐asthenosphere boundary in central Tibet using electromagnetic and seismic data

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2014
We undertake a petrologically driven approach to jointly model magnetotelluric (MT) and seismic surface wave dispersion (SW) data from central Tibet, constrained by topographic height. The approach derives realistic temperature and pressure distributions

COSMIC Variance in Binary Population Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2019
The formation and evolution of binary stars are critical components of several fields in astronomy. The most numerous sources for gravitational wave observatories are inspiraling or merging compact binaries, while binary stars are present in nearly every

Radiation‐Resistant Aluminum Alloy for Space Missions in the Extreme Environment of the Solar System

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel ultrafine‐grained aluminum crossover alloy exhibits unprecedented radiation resistance and mechanical stability under extreme irradiation doses up to 100 dpa. The exceptional resilience arises from thermodynamically stable T‐phase precipitates, enabling lightweight structural materials for next‐generation spacecraft and extraterrestrial ...
