Influence of Extraction Solvents on Cosmos caudatus Leaf Antioxidant Properties

C. caudatus leaf extracts were obtained using five different extraction solvents, namely 100 % methanol, 100 % ethanol, 95 % ethanol, 50 % ethanol, and 100 % water. Mechanically liberated C. caudatus leaf juice was also used for comparison.

Phytochemistry, 1995Abstract One hydroxyeugenol and five coniferyl alcohol derivatives have been isolated from the roots of Cosmos caudatus. Structures of the isolated compounds were established on the basis of spectral data. Z-coniferylalcohol-3′-acetyl-4-isobutyrate and 1′,2′-dihydroxy-coniferyl alcohol-3′-isobutyryl-4-isobutyrate are new natural compounds.
