The pectoralis muscle orientation as an indicator of the modes of wing‐propelled locomotion in birds
Journal of Anatomy, EarlyView.The pectoralis orientation of birds was consistent with the orientation of the aerodynamic force acting on the wing, varying by wing‐propelled locomotion (WPL) mode. The skeletal morphology unique to each WPL mode, related to the origin/insertion of the pectoralis, may be associated with these functional demands of pectoralis orientation.

Mitigating Effects of Nest Structure on Predation Risk in Hainan Partridge (Arborophila ardens)
Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.Enclosed nest structures can disrupt predator search efficiency and reduce predation risk. Predation rate in the uncovered group was significantly higher than that in the covered group. Our study highlights the functional limitations of nest‐structure evolution within complex predation environments.
