Moulting cycles in European quail(Coturnix coturnix coturnix)under constant photoperiodic conditions [PDF]
Male and female European quails (Coturnix coturnix coturnix) were studied whilst being maintained in LD 12:12, at 20° C, for four years from birth. The birds exhibited the following phases: end of the first phase of the post‐juvenile moult, fattening and a period of nocturnal activity.

Farm-reared Coturnix quail less than 3 weeks old showed depression, ruffled feathers, diarrhoea and high mortality. Histological examination revealed basophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies mainly in the digestive tract, and rarely in the liver, kidney, nasal epithelium, conjunctiva and columnar epithelial cells within the mucosa of the bursa of ...

Visual lateralisation in quails (Coturnix coturnix)
Laterality: Asymmetries of Body, Brain and Cognition, 2003Two-week-old quails (Coturnix coturnix) were trained to discriminate food grains scattered randomly on a background of small pebbles of similar size adhering to the floor and differing from the grains in texture and hue ("pebble floor task"). Quails tested binocularly or with only their right eye in use showed less pecking to the pebbles and more ...
