The potential for predation induced somatic embryogenesis in storage cotyledons

open access: yes, 2005
Using seven tropical rainforest species of north Queensland, Australia, we simulated partial predation and compared the development of intact embryos and embryos from which various proportions had been removed, including in some cases the original root ...

Integrated characterization of Greek fennel genotypes through morpho‐agronomical characteristics, yield components and phytochemical compounds

open access: yesJSFA reports, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 91-103, March 2025.
Abstract Background Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) is a widely cultivated vegetable and aromatic‐medicinal plant. In this research, field studies assessed 12 fennel genotypes of diverse origin, comprising 10 Greek accessions and two European commercial varieties, focusing on their morpho‐agronomical traits, phenolic compounds and antioxidant ...

Isolation of a vicilin gene from pea (pisum sativum l.), and nuclease sensitivity of seed storage protein genes in pea chromatin [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
A library of pea genomic DNA in the bacteriophage vector EMBL3 was screened by hybridisation to cDNAs encoding vicilin, a major storage protein of pea (Pisum sativum L.) seeds.

Cotyledons contribute to plant growth and hybrid vigor in Arabidopsis

open access: yes, 2019
© 2018, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature. Main conclusion: In hybrids of Arabidopsis, cotyledons influence the amount and proportion of hybrid vigor in total plant growth.

The epigenetic landscape of plant defense: Unlocking nature's toolkit for new plant protection

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, EarlyView.
This review examines how epigenetic mechanisms regulate plant immune gene activation, repression, and priming, then links these natural regulatory layers to emerging epigenetic editing, discussing their potential for precise, heritable crop protection and the challenges.

Influence of Maternal Supplementation with Vitamins, Minerals, and (or) Protein/Energy on Placental Development and Angiogenic Factors in Beef Heifers during Pregnancy

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
The effect of vitamins and minerals supplementation (VTM) and/or two rates of body weight gain (GAIN) on bovine placental vascular development and angiogenic factors gene expression were evaluated in two experiments: In Exp. 1, crossbred Angus heifers (n

Organ-specific effects of dark treatment on photosynthesis and the expression of photosynthesis-related genes

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2011
The effects of two-day dark treatment, applied to whole plants or to individual organs, on the photosynthetic apparatus in cotyledons and first rosette leaves of young Arabidopsis thaliana plants were studied.

Characterization of photorespiration and photosynthesis in soybean cotyledons during seedling development, cotyledon senescence and rejuvenation

open access: yes, 1988
We measured light and dark carbon dioxide exchange rates (CER) in germinating, presenescent, and senescing soybean cotyledons and in cotyledons rejuvenated by epicotyl removal on different days after planting.

Combined effects of canola plant density and insecticide management strategies on flea beetle abundance, canola defoliation, and yield across the Canadian prairies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing canola plant density reduced flea beetle abundance per plant and increased yield, independent of region or insecticide use, highlighting its potential as a component of integrated pest management. Abstract The crucifer flea beetle, Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze), and the striped flea beetle, Phyllotreta striolata (Fabricius) (Coleoptera ...

SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, restores pyrethroid efficacy against cabbage stem flea beetle but negatively impacts its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, inhibited key metabolic pathways associated with pyrethroid insecticide resistance in cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) and its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae. SYN‐A restored pyrethroid efficacy against resistant CSFB allowing up to 80% reduction in application rates.
