Variación de los compuestos fenólicos de Phaseolus vulgaris L. durante el almacenamiento y su relación con el endurecimiento Variation of phenolic compounds of Phaseolus vulgaris L. during storage and its relationship with the hardening

open access: yesBioagro, 2012
Una de las principales limitantes para el consumo de leguminosas en los países de clima tropical es el endurecimiento de los granos durante el almacenamiento a alta temperatura y alta humedad relativa. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el efecto

The role of light in the inducation of nitrate reductase and nitrite reductase in cucumber seedlings

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2015
The activity of nitrate reductase (NR) and nitrite reductase (NiR) was investigated in vivo and in vitro in the roots and NR activity in 3-day-old cotyledons of cucumber seedlings.

Idiosyncratic phenomenon of regeneration from cotyledons in the idiot fruit tree, Idiospermum australiense

open access: yes, 2001
Idiospermum australiense (Diels) S. T. Blake, is a rare species that produces very large diaspores (up to 225 g) comprising 2–6 cotyledons. Anecdotal evidence suggested that each cotyledon within the diaspore could develop an independent root/shoot axis ...

In planta analysis of the mode of action of cinmethylin and confirmation of fatty acyl‐ACP thioesterases (FATs) as primary site of action

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
In planta analysis of the mode of action of cinmethylin and confirmation of fatty acyl‐ACP thioesterases (FATs) as primary site of action. Cinmethylin inhibits FATs, disrupting eukaryotic de novo lipid biosynthesis and causing defects in cell division, elongation and integrity. We confirm FATs as the primary site of action in planta.

Effect of gravity on senescence and polyamine content of Helianthus annuus cotyledons

open access: yes, 1994
When 19-day-old Helianthus annuus plants were placed horizontally with one cotyledon oriented downward and the other upward, the senescence of these cotyledons, especially of the former one, was greatly accelerated compared with that of upright ones ...

Intercropping mitigates incidence of the oilseed rape insect pest complex

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Intercropping reduces the incidence of the oilseed rape insect pest complex with a significant impact of the direct visual and physical disruption provided by the companion plant. Abstract BACKGROUND Oilseed rape (OSR, Brassica napus) is a major crop requiring numerous phytosanitary treatments.

Proteomic Investigations of Proteases Involved in Cotyledon Senescence: A Model to Explore the Genotypic Variability of Proteolysis Machinery Associated with Nitrogen Remobilization Efficiency during the Leaf Senescence of Oilseed Rape

open access: yesProteomes, 2017
Oilseed rape is characterized by a low nitrogen remobilization efficiency during leaf senescence, mainly due to a lack of proteolysis. Because cotyledons are subjected to senescence, it was hypothesized that contrasting protease activities between ...

Histology of Organogenic and Embryogenic Responses in Cotyledons of Somatic Embryos of Quercus Suber L.

open access: yes, 2000
In cork oak (Quercus suber L.), recurrent embryogenesis is produced in vitro through autoembryony without exogenous plant growth regulators (PGRs); secondary embryos appear on the embryo axis but seldom on cotyledons.

Tree Squirrels Selectively Disperse High‐Quality Acorns Away From Tree Trunks

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Acorn quality and squirrel feeding behavior significantly structured spatial dispersal patterns of two Californian oak species. Non‐infested acorns were preferentially selected for embryo excision and dispersed farther than infested ones. Acorns were fully consumed near tree trunks, signaling rapid feeding in safe refuges, whereas non‐eaten, partially ...

Studies on soluble carbohydrates in yellow lupin (Lupinus luteus L.) seeds of different age

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
Yellow lupin seeds cv. Juno were stored under laboratory conditions for 2 month, 4, 6 and 8 years. Eighteen soluble carbohydrates were identified in embryonic axes and cotyledons of different age seeds.
