An ultrastructural study of chloroplasts and microbodies in seed and seedling cotyledons of Pharbitis nil

open access: yes, 1980
The cellular ultrastructure of cotyledon tissue from seeds and seedlings of Japanese morning glory (Pharbitis nil) was studied. Weight determinations of the seed and seedling cotyledons, the same age as those studied under the transmission electron ...

Animal‐Mediated Dispersal and Clonal Growth Drive Prunus cerasus Invasion in Andean Temperate Forest

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Prunus cerasus reproduces by clonality and by seed dispersal and germination. P. cerasus is invading Patagonian protected areas. The relative relevance of germination and clonal reproduction changes along the time of P. cerasus arrival at a site. Seed dispersal by foxes is primarily responsible for the spread of P. cerasus to new areas.

Bridging the Late Antique Gap in Northwest Arabia: New Archaeological Evidence on the Occupation of Wādī al‐Qurā (al‐ʿUlā [AlUla], Saudi Arabia) Between the Third and Seventh Centuries CE

open access: yesArabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In 2019, the Dadan Archaeological Project (CNRS/RCU/AFALULA) identified a Late Antique village 1 km south of ancient Dadan in the al‐ʿUlā valley (northwest Saudi Arabia). Three excavation seasons at this site (2021–2023) have uncovered a massive building constructed in the late third or early fourth cent.

Adventitious shoot regeneration from in vitro juvenile explants of black alder (Alnus glutinosa [L.] Gaertn.)

open access: yesBiotechnologie, Agronomie, Société et Environnement, 2013
We studied the in vitro regeneration ability of black alder (Alnus glutinosa L.) using juvenile explants and a modified woody plant medium (mWPM). In our first experiment (Exp. 1), mature seeds were cultured in the presence of different concentrations of

The Late Agricultural Development of Central Arabian Oases—Archaeobotanical and Archaeozoological Studies of the al‐Kharj Oasis

open access: yesArabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While oasis settlements emerged during the Bronze Age in Eastern and Northern Arabia, the settlement process in Central Arabia was different. Excavations at al‐Yamāma—main ancient settlement of the al‐Kharj oasis (Riyadh Province, KSA)—suggest that the latter did not emerge before the second half of the first millennium BCE.

Status of ash (Fraxinus spp.) in mixed hardwood post‐outbreak forests near the epicentre of the emerald ash borer invasion

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
The persistence and health of ash populations were characterized in post‐outbreak forests near the epicentre of the emerald ash borer (EAB) invasion in North America. Regenerating ash remained abundant, but densities of understory ash were higher in wetlands (hydric), while ash remained at the seedling stage in riparian (mesic) and upland (xeric ...
