Chemical genetics uncovers novel inhibitors of lignification, including p-iodobenzoic acid targeting CINNAMATE-4-HYDROXYLASE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Plant secondary-thickened cell walls are characterized by the presence of lignin, a recalcitrant and hydrophobic polymer that provides mechanical strength and ensures long-distance water transport.

Phenolic Profiles, Antioxidant Properties and Predicted Glycaemic Index of Bread Sweetened With Date Syrup in Comparison With Granulated Sugar

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Date syrup are used as sweetener in bread. Bread with date syrup had superior phenolic composition, better antioxidant properties and carbohydrate hydrolysing enzymes while bread with granulated sugar had higher predicted glyceamic index. The study concluded that date syrup could be the next though‐out ingredient for dual purpose in bread. ABSTRACT The

The phenolic complex in flaxseed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Flaxseed is the richest plant source of the lignan secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG). In flaxseed, SDG exists in an oligomeric structure with 3-hydroxy-3-methyl glutaric acid (HMGA) forming a phenolic complex together with p-coumaric acid and ...

Biological activities and chemical composition of methanolic extracts of selected Autochthonous microalgae strains from the Red Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Four lipid-rich microalgal species from the Red Sea belonging to three different genera (Nannochloris, Picochlorum and Desmochloris), previously isolated as novel biodiesel feedstocks, were bioprospected for high-value, bioactive molecules.

Optimization of a p-Coumaric Acid Biosensor System for Versatile Dynamic Performance.

open access: yesACS Synthetic Biology, 2020
Metabolic engineering is a promising approach for the synthesis of valuable compounds. Transcriptional factor-based biosensors are efficient tools to regulate the metabolic pathway dynamically. Here, we engineered the p-coumaric acid responsive regulator

Fermentation‐Induced Modulation of Polyphenolic Contents and Medicinal Activities in Annona squamosa Seeds

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
The study compared the medicinal activities of polyphenols from fermented and unfermented seeds of Annona squamosa. The polyphenols were extracted and subjected to standard analysis. The major phenolic components of the fermented polyphenols and the unfermented polyphenols were found to be 4‐hydroxybenzoic and 4‐hydroxyphenylacetic acid, respectively ...

Chemical Composition, Amino Acids, Phenolic Profiles and Bioavailability of Minerals in Livingstone Potato (Plectranthus esculentus) as Affected by Different Processing Techniques

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Boiling retained the nutrients and polyphenol compounds in Plectranthus esculentus tubers better than frying or roasting. A bioavailability study showed that the phytates and oxalates in the tuber may not affect the bioavailabilities of calcium, zinc, or iron in Plectranthus esculentus tubers when eaten.

Prenylated Coumaric Acids from Artemisia scoparia Beneficially Modulate Adipogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Natural Products, 2021
Two new diprenylated coumaric acid isomers (1a and 1b) and two known congeners, capillartemisin A (2) and B (3), were isolated from Artemisia scoparia as bioactive markers using bioactivity-guided HPLC fractionation. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic means, including 1D and 2D NMR methods and LC-MS, with their purity assessed by 1D 1H ...
