Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Numerical Flow Analysis in a Rotating Square Duct and a Rotating Curved-Duct

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2000
A numerical study is conducted on the fully-developed laminar flow of an incompressible viscous fluid in a square duct rotating about a perpendicular axis to the axial direction of the duct. At the straight duct, the rotation produces vortices due to the

Semiconductor racetrack resonator coupled to an S‐bent waveguide: Influence of the coupling coefficients on the unidirectional operation

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, 2021
Semiconductor ring lasers have attracted remarkable interest as laser sources in photonic integrated circuits. They result in bidirectional laser owing to the rotation symmetry between the two counter‐propagating modes of the ring cavity.

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Angular momentum transport and its scaling in co-rotating suspension Taylor-Couette flow [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Torque measurements are carried out to elucidate the global response of a neutrally buoyant, non-colloidal suspension in the co-rotation regime (i.e., the rotation ratio Ω = ωo/ωi > 0, with ωo and ωi being the angular speeds of the inner and outer ...

Rotation of the maxillomandibular complex in orthognathic surgery: A review

open access: yesJournal of Craniomaxillofacial Research, 2020
Introduction: In orthognathic surgery, maxillomandibular complex (MMC) refers to a  three-dimensional dento-osseous structure consisting of the surgically-mobilized part of the maxilla together with the distal segment (i.e., tooth bearing segment) of the

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Can Rotational Grouping Be Determined by the Initial Conditions?

open access: yesi-Perception, 2018
Objects rotating in depth with an ambiguous rotation direction frequently appear to rotate together. Corotation is especially strong when the objects are interpretable as having a shared axis.

Analysis of Counter-Rotating Wind Turbines

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2007
This paper presents a study on the performance of a wind turbine with two counter- rotating (CRWT) rotors. The characteristics of the two counter-rotating rotors are on a 3- bladed Nordtank 500 kW rotor. The analysis has been carried out by using an Actuator Line technique implemented in the Navier-Stokes code EllipSys3D.
