Mechanical coupling coordinates microtubule growth

open access: yeseLife, 2023
During mitosis, kinetochore-attached microtubules form bundles (k-fibers) in which many filaments grow and shorten in near-perfect unison to align and segregate each chromosome. However, individual microtubules grow at intrinsically variable rates, which must be tightly regulated for a k-fiber to behave as a single unit.

Coupled oscillators coordinate collective germline growth

open access: yesDevelopmental Cell, 2021
Developing oocytes need large supplies of macromolecules and organelles. A conserved strategy for accumulating these products is to pool resources of oocyte-associated germline nurse cells. In Drosophila, these cells grow more than 100-fold to boost their biosynthetic capacity.

Degree of coordination in market-coupling and counter-trading [PDF]

open access: yesThe Energy Journal, 2012
Cross-border trade remains a contentious issue in the restructuring of the European electricity market. Difficulties stem from the lack of a common market design, the separation between energy and transmission markets and the insufficient coordination ...

Optimizing plasmonic nanoantennas via coordinated multiple coupling [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
AbstractPlasmonic nanoantennas, which can efficiently convert light from free space into sub-wavelength scale with the local field enhancement, are fundamental building blocks for nanophotonic systems. Predominant design methods, which exploit a single type of near- or far-field coupling in pairs or arrays of plasmonic nanostructures, have limited the ...
