Holographic Heavy Quark Energy Loss in the Hybrid Model [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
To date, holographic calculations in strongly coupled plasma have provided separate descriptions for the rates of energy loss either for ultrarelativistic massless quarks and gluons or for infinitely massive quarks, with the latter calculation valid for √

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Fiber-Coupled Ultra-High-Q Microresonators for Nonlinear and Quantum Optics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The ability to confine optical energy in small volumes for long periods of time is desirable for a number of applications, ranging from photonics and nonlinear optics, to fundamental studies in quantum electrodynamics.

Rib-Waveguide-Based Optical Path Design for Integrated Photonic Crystal Optomechanical Accelerometers

open access: yesPhotonics
To prevent the collapse of strip waveguides caused by complete undercut during hydrofluoric acid (HF) release in SOI-based cavity optomechanical accelerometers, we propose using rib waveguides as the on-chip optical transmission medium. Based on a 250-nm-

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

Design of hybrid anapole metal–dielectric cavities for giant magnetic Purcell enhancement

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Magnetic-field enhancement in photonic nanostructures is fundamentally limited by the weak magnetic response of natural materials and the lack of general design principles for simultaneously controlling electric and magnetic resonances.

Optical Analog to Electromagnetically Induced Transparency in Cascaded Ring-Resonator Systems

open access: yesSensors, 2016
The analogue of electromagnetically induced transparency in optical methods has shown great potential in slow light and sensing applications. Here, we experimentally demonstrated a coupled resonator induced transparency system with three cascaded ring ...
