Lamin-A is Mechanosensitive to Matrix Stiffness and Couples to the Retinoic Acid Pathway in Differentiation [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2014
Matrix elasticity helps direct lineage specification of human bone marrow-derived MSCs in culture toward bone, fat, or other tissue types with mechanisms based in part on myosin-II generated stresses. We found with both gel systems and nano-collagen films that matrix rigidity leads to higher levels of nucleoskeletal protein lamin-A.

Prediction of interfacial debonding between stiff spherical particles and a soft matrix with the coupled criterion [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2020
Abstract The tensile load at debonding onset between stiff particles and a soft matrix is predicted with the coupled criterion which combines a stress and an energy conditions. A finite element model of a representative volume element is implemented in order to consider the influence of the size of the particles, the particle volume fraction, mixed ...

Vehicle-Bridge Coupling Vibration Analysis for Simply Supported Girders of High-Speed Railway Bridges Based on the Cross-Sectional Decentralized Centre of Mass and Shear

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2021
Taking the simply supported box girder bridge of high-speed railway as an example, the effect of cross-sectional decentralized centre of mass and shear on the spatial beam element stiffness matrix was theoretically derived.

Elastic load coupling with tailored elastomer composites

open access: yesComposites Part C: Open Access, 2021
This study identifies a unique performance benefit in flexible composite laminates through evaluation of the load-coupling potentials once an external stimulus triggers extensional loadings.

A convenient scheme for coupling a finite element curvilinear mesh to a finite element voxel mesh: application to the heart

open access: yesBioMedical Engineering OnLine, 2006
Background In some cases, it may be necessary to combine distinct finite element meshes into a single system. The present work describes a scheme for coupling a finite element mesh, which may have curvilinear elements, to a voxel based finite element ...

Comparison of Tensile Properties and Mechanical-Dynamic Analysis of Poly-Lactic Acid / Poly-Ethylene Compounded with Natural Fibers [PDF]

open access: yesتحقیقات علوم چوب و کاغذ ایران, 2018
In this study, the tensile and dynamic-mechanical properties of composites made by poly-lactic acid polymer (PLA) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) as matrix and sawdust to reinforcement 30 % weight were investigated.

A Multiple Step Active Stiffness Integration Scheme to Couple a Stochastic Cross-Bridge Model and Continuum Mechanics for Uses in Both Basic Research and Clinical Applications of Heart Simulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
In a multiscale simulation of a beating heart, the very large difference in the time scales between rapid stochastic conformational changes of contractile proteins and deterministic macroscopic outcomes, such as the ventricular pressure and volume, have ...

Dynamic modeling and characteristic analysis of the periodically coupled plate structure based on the dynamic stiffness method

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
In this paper, the dynamic model of periodically coupled plate structure is formulated by the dynamic stiffness method (DSM). Geometrical construction is assumed to vary periodically in the whole plate structure.

Exact Stiffness for Beams on Kerr-Type Foundation: The Virtual Force Approach

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
This paper alternatively derives the exact element stiffness equation for a beam on Kerr-type foundation. The shear coupling between the individual Winkler-spring components and the peripheral discontinuity at the boundaries between the loaded and the ...

Research on High Precision Stiffness Modeling Method of Redundant Over-Constrained Parallel Mechanism

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Traditional stiffness modeling methods do not consider all factors comprehensively, and the modeling methods are not unified, lacking a global stiffness model.
