Experimental cowpox virus infection in rats
Veterinary Microbiology, 2011A pet rat derived cowpox virus strain, which was also the source of human infections, was used to infect young Wistar and fancy rats. After an incubation period of 6 days the animals developed a severe, often fatal disease with high amounts of virus detected in oropharyngeal secretions.
