A Novel Function of Pet54 in Regulation of Cox1 Synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae Mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2016
Cytochrome c oxidase assembly requires the synthesis of the mitochondria-encoded core subunits, Cox1, Cox2, and Cox3. In yeast, Pet54 protein is required to activate translation of the COX3 mRNA and to process the aI5β intron on the COX1 transcript. Here we report a third, novel function of Pet54 on Cox1 synthesis.

Horizontal Gene Transfer has Impacted cox1 Gene Evolution in Cassytha filiformis

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Evolution, 2020
The gene cox1 is one of the most reported mitochondrial genes involved in horizontal gene transfer among angiosperms. However, whether different cox1 copies exist in different populations of a species and whether any other novel way except intron homing exists for cox1 intron acquisition is less understood.

The Carboxyl-terminal End of Cox1 Is Required for Feedback Assembly Regulation of Cox1 Synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae Mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2010
Synthesis of the largest cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) subunit, Cox1, on yeast mitochondrial ribosomes is coupled to assembly of CcO. The translational activator Mss51 is sequestered in early assembly intermediate complexes by an interaction with Cox14 that depends on the presence of newly synthesized Cox1. If CcO assembly is prevented, the level of Mss51

Cyclooxygenase 1 (COX1) as an indicator of sperm quality in humans

Andrologia, 2020
Sperm quality is important for in vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer and intracytoplasmic sperm injection in the treatment of human infertility. The purpose of this study was to screen for biomarkers that could evaluate sperm quality. We analysed semen samples in 172 fertile males; multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the levels ...

A 60 kDa COX1 protein in mitochondria of carrot irrespective of the presence of C-terminal extensions in the cox1 reading frames

Molecular Genetics and Genomics, 2005
An inverted repeat in the mitochondrial DNA of carrot mitochondrial type (mitotype) SW3 has been sequenced in the context of its up- and downstream genomic environments. The 3,159 bp repeat encodes rps7 and cox1, but the cox1 reading frame does not encode a stop codon at a position predicted by alignment with other plant cox1 genes; cox1 extends into ...

Motive representation in nucleotide densities of bird's mitochondrial gene COX1

Proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies, 2011
Estimated number of species is 7--100 million of prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Just a small fraction has been identified up to the present days. Morphological taxonomy is not able to process such huge diversity. Methods based on analysis of DNA sequences can be much more successful.
