Selective Oma1 Protease-mediated Proteolysis of Cox1 Subunit of Cytochrome Oxidase in Assembly Mutants

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2012
Background: Yeast lacking Coa2 are deficient in cytochrome c oxidase due to Cox1 degradation. Results: Oma1 mediates Cox1 degradation in coa2∆ cells but not other mutants stalled in oxidase biogenesis.

The mitochondrialtrn–cox1locus: Rapid evolution in Pompilidae and evidence of bias incox1initiation and termination codon usage

Mitochondrial DNA, 2009
The translation initiation codon of the mitochondrial (mt) cytochrome oxidase I gene, cox1, frequently differs from conventional AUN triplets, and the termination codon is often incomplete. To investigate whether initiation and termination codon usage may depend on the rate of mt genome evolution, a fast evolving locus comprising cox1 and adjacent tRNA ...

The MSS51 gene product is required for the translation of the COX1 mRNA in yeast mitochondria

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1990
The MSS51 gene product has been previously shown to be involved in the splicing of the mitochondrial pre-mRNA of cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COX1). We show here that it is specifically required for the translation of the COX1 mRNA. Furthermore, the paromocyin-resistance mutation (P454R) which affects the 15S mitoribosomal RNA, interferes, directly or

New mechanism for COX1 in ovarian cancer

The Lancet Oncology, 2005
364 http://oncology.thelancet.com Vol 6 June 2005 Cyclooxygenase 1 (COX1), but not COX2, is highly expressed in epithelial ovarian cancers in humans and in mice, according to new research (Cancer Res 2005; 65: 3735–44). “Our work appears to be very important since the question regarding the relative role of COX1 and COX2 [in tumour formation] remains ...

Deficiency of cox1 gene expression in wheat plants with Aegilops columnaris cytoplasm

Current Genetics, 1996
Wheat plants with Aegilops columnaris cytoplasm are characterized by growth inhibition and partial male sterility and show an impaired mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase activity. We designed this study to clarify the functional relationship between this impaired cytochrome c oxidase activity and possible structural alterations to the mitochondrial ...

Study of cox1 trans-splicing in Diplonema papillatum mitochondria

2011

Comparative genotyping of Echinococcus granulosus infecting buffalo in Iran using cox1 gene

Parasitology Research, 2010
Twenty-five isolates of Echinococcus granulosus protoscoleces from hydatid cysts were collected from 25 buffaloes in five different provinces of Iran. DNA was extracted from protoscoleces and used for phylogenetical analysis. For this aim, the DNA was amplified using specific primers derived from cox1 gene and, subsequently, the corresponding ...

Characterization and Sequencing of MT-Cox1 Gene in Khorasan Native Poultry

Animal Research International, 2014
The aim of this study was to investigate the nucleotide sequence of COX1 gene in mitochondrial genome of Khorasan native chicken and detect the possible mutations in the genome. For this purpose, after sampling and extracting DNA from the whole blood samples, the COX1 gene was amplified using specific primers and cloned in pTG19-T plasmid of the DH5α ...
