Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Stratified Cox Model with Interactions in Analysis of Recurrent Events

open access: yesActa Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Oeconomica, 2018
The purpose of this paper is the assessment of relative intensity of exit from registered unemployment by means of the analysis of recurrent survival episodes and the comparison of these results with the results obtained for an individual episode.

Bias of Maximum-Likelihood estimates in logistic and Cox regression models: A comparative simulation study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Parameter estimates of logistic and Cox regression models are biased for finite samples. In a simulation study we investigated for both models the behaviour of the bias in relation to sample size and further parameters.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

A Cox Model-Based Workflow for Increased Accuracy in Activity-Travel Patterns Generation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Understanding how people spend time on daily activities is key to modeling travel behavior. However, accurately estimating the duration of these activities remains a significant challenge, especially when generating synthetic activity-travel data.

Uncertain Box-Cox Regression Analysis With Rescaled Least Squares Estimation

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Under the uncertain statistical framework by Liu [19], there is still a lack of an effective fitting method for uncertain linear models with Box-Cox transformation of response variables.

Asymptotic theory for the Cox model with missing time-dependent covariate

open access: yes, 2006
The relationship between a time-dependent covariate and survival times is usually evaluated via the Cox model. Time-dependent covariates are generally available as longitudinal data collected regularly during the course of the study.

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

Prediction of recurrence-free survival in patients with renal cell carcinoma and tumor thrombosis of the renal and inferior vena cava of levels I–II using an extended Cox model and machine learning methods

open access: yesНаука и инновации в медицине
Aim – to compare the predictive accuracy of Cox regression and machine learning (ML) methods regarding recurrence-free survival in patients with locally advanced renal cell carcinoma after radical treatment.
