Fatigue crack propagation in microcapsule toughened epoxy [PDF]
The addition of liquid-filled urea-formaldehyde (UF) microcapsules to an epoxy matrix leads to significant reduction in fatigue crack growth rate and corresponding increase in fatigue life.

Automated Crack Detection and Crack Growth Rate Measurement Using Thermoelasticity
A new capability for automated crack detection and crack growth rate monitoring is described and experimentally validated. The capability is based on a low-cost industrial grade microbolometer mounted to an x-y linear slider assembly driven by a guidance algorithm that uses the thermoelastic quadrature signal to locate the crack tip.

Predicting fatigue crack growth rate in a welded butt joint: The role of effective R ratio in accounting for residual stress effect [PDF]
A simple and efficient method is presented in this paper for predicting fatigue crack growth rate in welded butt joints. Three well-known empirical crack growth laws are employed using the material constants that were obtained from the base material ...

Modeling of creep-fatigue interaction effects on crack growth at elevated temperatures
The well-known load frequency effect on creep-fatigue crack growth is explained by the interactions between fatigue and creep loading and is quantified using the concept of plasticity-induced crack closure.

Finite element analyses of fatigue crack growth under small scale yielding conditions modelled with a cyclic cohesive zone approach [PDF]
Mode I fatigue crack growth is modelled and investigated with a cohesive zone approach. A 2D finite element boundary layer model under plane strain and small scale yielding conditions is used to generate fatigue crack growth rate curves ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Fatigue crack growth of cast austenitic stainless steels
The influences of stress ratio, single overload and high-low loading sequence on the fatigue crack growth of Z3CN20-09M cast austenitic stainless steels were studied with compact tension specimens. When the stress intensity factor range is identical, the
