Mechanism of crack branching in the fatigue crack growth path of 2324-T39 Aluminium alloy

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2015
The crack growth behavior in 2324-T39 aluminium alloy was experimentally investigated. Two types of crack branching were observed. The mechanism of an uncommon crack branching which results from the link up of secondary crack with the main crack was ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Numerical Simulation of Crack Propagation in Dissimilar Metal Welded Region Based on Interaction Integral

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
A large number of dissimilar metal welded materials exist in nuclear power structures, so the accurate evaluation of crack propagation in welded region is highly relevant to the safe service of nuclear power equipment.

Study on Stress Intensity Factor of Pit-crack of Tubing under Axial Load

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2021
In order to study the variation law of pit-crack of tubing under axial load, the interaction integral method provided by ANSYS platform was used to study the influence of pit shape, crack shape and crack inclination angle of outer wall of tubing on crack

Surface cracks in a plate of finite width under tension or bending [PDF]

open access: yes
The problem of a finite plate containing collinear surface cracks is considered and solved by using the line spring model with plane elasticity and Reissner's plate theory.

Towards the understanding of variable amplitude fatigue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Fatigue life estimation is of high importance during the design stage of a machine or component. Basic fatigue calculations are made based on the use of an S-N curve. As far as constant amplitude loads are applied, this approach works well. However, most

From Individual to Collective Pinning: Effect of Long-range Elastic Interactions

open access: yes, 1998
We study the effect of long-range elastic interactions in the dynamical behavior of an elastic chain driven quasi-statically in a quenched random pinning potential and in the strong pinning limit.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...
