The problem analyzed is of the crack kinking away from the interface between the two different anisotropic materials. The attention is concentrated on the initiation of the crack kinking and the condition that the length of the crack segment that is ...

A Theoretical Note on Mode I Crack Kinking and Branching
An energy-based fracture mode has been derived for the mode I crack kinking and branching. The classic -integral has been further explored by a new partial integral path and the analytical solution of the energy release rate for crack kinking and ...

Approximate Description of Crack Kinking and Curving
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1981An approximate description is given of the slightly out-of-plane growth of a straight crack under mixed-mode loading and in the presence of an in-plane stress. By using a perturbation technique, conditions are derived for the deviation of the crack from straightness.

A model for crack growth with branching and kinking [PDF]
We study an evolution model for fractured elastic materials in the 2-dimensional case, for which the crack path is not assumed to be known a priori. We introduce some general assumptions on the structure of the fracture sets suitable to remove the restrictions on the regularity of the crack sets and to allow for kinking and branching to develop.

Fatigue crack closure for inclined and kinked cracks
International Journal of Fracture, 2002This paper presents recent work on finite element modelling of plasticity-induced fatigue crack closure occurring in cracks which are inclined to the loading axis, and which may then develop a kink. Such crack deviations occur naturally during crack growth, and improved life prediction models require understanding of the effects of such inclined ...

Effect of a micro-crack on the kinked macro-crack
Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2018Abstract The solution of an infinite plane containing an arbitrarily located micro-crack and a kinked macro-crack is presented based on the distributed dislocation technique (DDT). The stress field, the plastic zone of the macro-crack tip (PZ) and the stress intensity factors at the macro-crack tip (SIFs) are obtained.

Crack extension and kinking in piezoceramics
SPIE Proceedings, 1999The problem of an isolated crack as well as a crack with a kink in a plane piezoceramic medium is theoretically investigated in this study. The orientation of a crack with respect to the poling direction may be arbitrary. The approaches of Lekhnitskii's complex potentials and distributed dislocation modeling of cracks for elastic solids are extended to

On the stability of cracks with bridged kinks
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2001Abstract Crack extension in composites consisting of brittle matrix reinforced by ductile particles is analyzed under conditions of mixed in-plane loading. The applied loading is characterized in terms of the nominal stress intensity factors, k I N and k II N .

Pre-kinking of a moving crack in a magnetoelectroelastic material under in-plane loading [PDF]
A constant moving crack in a magnetoelectroelastic material under in-plane mechanical, electric and magnetic loading is studied for impermeable crack surface boundary conditions. Fourier transform is employed to reduce the mixed boundary value problem of
