Crack Mouth Opening Displacement-Based η Factors for SE(B) Specimens
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2009Abstract Three-dimensional finite element analysis of SE(B) fracture toughness specimens with crack sizes ranging from a/W=0.1–0.6 were performed to develop ηCMOD values for estimating Jpl in fracture toughness tests. The analyses included specimens with smooth sides and 20 % sidegrooves.

This work addresses the development of wide range compliance solutions for tensile-loaded and bend specimens based on CMOD. The study covers selected standard and non-standard fracture test specimens, including the compact tension C(T) configuration, the single edge notch tension SE(T) specimen with fixed-grip loading (clamped ends) and the single edge

Deflection–crack mouth opening displacement relationship for concrete beams with and without fibres
Magazine of Concrete Research, 2015The three-point bending (TPB) test of a notched beam is a method widely used to characterise the toughness of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) in terms of fracture energy. However, since the measurement of deflection is significantly dependent on the test set-up, spurious deflections are sometimes obtained.

Evaluation of Normalization Method With Crack Mouth Opening Displacement for Developing J-R Curves
Volume 4: Materials and Fabrication, 2021Abstract Fracture toughness is an important material property used to characterize material resistance against crack tearing. In ASTM E1820 standard fracture toughness test method developed for metallic materials, the elastic unloading compliance method is recommended for measuring incremental crack growth and evaluating fracture ...

ABSTRACTIn the unloading compliance method developed for clamped single edge tension (SE(T)) specimens, six crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD)‐based compliance equations (i.e.a/W = f(BCE′)) were proposed for the crack length evaluation without clearly clarifying the corresponding predictive accuracies.

Revised Incremental J-Integral Equations for ASTM E1820 Using the Crack Mouth Opening Displacement
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2009Abstract The incremental J-integral equations used in ASTM E1820 were developed utilizing the work input to the test specimen, and utilize the load versus load-point/line displacement (LLD) data obtained from the fracture test. The analysis of Ernst et al.

Abstract A new technique has recently been proposed to provide improved estimates of the creep contribution to the crack mouth opening displacements (CMOD) and displacement rates during creep crack growth (CCG) tests. This technique employs finite element analysis that incorporates material specific uniaxial tensile test data to simulate

Abstract A finite element model is presented for the determination of plastic zone and Mouth Opening Displacement (MOD) values of an edge cracked thin mild steel plate. Singularity effects near the crack tip are solved by introducing 12 node cubic isoparametric elements in the crack tip region by collapsing into triangular elements.

An optimal design method for the maximum load of three-point bending concrete beam is proposed in this study. The statistics model is built according to the theory of GR resistance curve. With the help of least square method and Matlab® computing platform, the optimal design results are very similar of the experimental results, and thus a new criterion

The measurement of the displacement at the crack mouth of three-point bend specimens is compared to the measurement of load-line displacement for crack-length and J-integral evaluation. For crack-length determination by the unloading technique, the correction that must be made when using a clip gage mounted on knife edges is derived from load-line and ...
