Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

Fail-safe design of integral metallic aircraft structures reinforced by bonded crack retarders [PDF]
This paper presents an investigation on the effectiveness of crack growth retarders bonded to integral metallic structures. The study was performed by both numerical modelling and experimental tests.

Crack propagation speeds in weak snowpack layers
For the release of a slab avalanche, crack propagation within a weak snowpack layer below a cohesive snow slab is required. As crack speed measurements can give insight into underlying processes, we analysed three crack propagation events that occurred ...

In the damage tolerance analysis of aircraft panels, it was necessary to frequently apply complex boundaries and loads to simulate crack propagation. It was difficult to simulate crack propagation with the conventional finite element method.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Fatigue crack growth rates under variable amplitude load spectra containing tensile underloads [PDF]
An extensive research program was performed to investigate the load interaction effect of the combined action of small amplitude high R ratio cycles and large amplitude low R ratio underloads on the crack growth of large cracks.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Influence of grain structure and slip planarity on fatigue crack growth in low alloying artificially aged 2xxx aluminium alloys [PDF]
The fatigue crack growth behaviour under constant amplitude loading of three low alloying artificially aged 2xxx aluminium alloys with distinct microstructures is analysed. Fatigue crack growth tests show a correlation between fatigue performance and the

Comparative study of creep and fatigue crack growth in Poly (Vinyl chloride) pipe
The Rate theory of crack growth in PVC pipe has been studied for creep and fatigue crack propagation. Rate theory function parameters, (RTFP), were estimated theoretically from exponential function parameters, (EFP), to experimental data of crack ...

Analysis of crack propagation energy and effective unit hindering crack propagation
Impact tests were conducted on deposited metal of 690 MPa HSLA steel with inter-pass temperatures of 80 °C and 200 °C. The micro-structure and crack propagation path in the near fracture zone were observed using OM, SEM, EBSD and other analytical techniques.
